Rasam is basically a South Indian soup. It is one of those dishes I often prepare in my kitchen. Reason being its easy preparation and also its delicacy. Yes, it is indeed pleasing to the tastebuds.

Ingredients:

Tomatoes - 4(Cut into pieces)
Tamarind paste/pulp - 2 tablespoon
Coriander Powder - Half tablespoon
Cumin Powder - Half tablespoon
Urad dal - 1 tablespoon
Mustard - 1 tablespoon
Cumin - 1 tablespoon
Red Chillies - 3 (Cut into two halves)
Curry leaves - 5
Corinder leaves - To garnish
Garlic - 4 cloves
Salt - According to taste
Water - 4 cups
Oil - 1 tablespoon

Preparation:

Take a bowl and add tamarind paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chillies, salt and tomatoes.
Mix all the ingredients such that the tomatoes get smashed and get combined properly.
Keep this on heat and cook for 5 mins.
Add water to it and cook for 15-20 mins. You can see the texture of the water changes and becomes slightly thick.
Once you obtain the thickness remove from heat and keep it aside to cool.
Once it cools, make sure you transfer all the tomatoes from the bowl to another as you only need the soup here.
Take a pan to heat and pour oil into it. Add urad dal, mustard and cumin and wait till they pop up. Then add curry leaves and garlic cloves.
Pour the rasam/soup into the pan and mix. Add coriander leaves to this and take off the pan from stove.
Pour the tomato rasam/soup in a bowl and it is now ready to be served.

Serving Options:

Rasam can be served with rice or separately as a soup.
