Water has a natural pH between 6 and 8.5, with pure water at a pH of 7. Therefore if the water is hard, the higher is the pH level. Hard water has high mineral content in it. It is filled with especially calcium and magnesium – in comparison to soft water. This is why after you wash your hair; the minerals dissolved in the hard water create a scaly film on the hair. As a result of this, the hair tends to look dull, dry, lifeless and loses its luster and natural shine. It also leads to various hair issues like dandruff, hair loss, etc. however, there are various ways of saving the hair from hard water.

Wash with Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is acidic in nature. It has the ability to remove the scaly build-up from the hair. It also has the ability to balance the pH level, acts as a natural conditioner, and smoothes down the cuticles preventing split ends and makes the hair soft, silky and manageable. Post-shampoo, mix 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar to 3 cups of water and massage this concoction slowly on the scalp for circular motion. Leave it for a couple of minutes and rinse it off. You will see that the hair has its natural shine and smoothness.

Rain Water Rinse

Rain Water Rinse is an amazing thing for the hair. It is natural and soft water which works wonder for the hair. All you have to do is store the rainwater and use it to wash the hair. It makes the hair naturally glossy, healthy and shiny. The only drawback is that you can't have the supply of rainwater all throughout the year.

Clarifying Shampoo

Clarifying Shampoo is rather an easy option of all. It is widely available in the market and has various amazing effects on hair. It cleanses the hair thoroughly and along with that adds a volume, bounce, and shine. The hair also looks thicker and smooth. However, do not use clarifying shampoo frequently as it will strip off the natural oils from the hair and scalp. Also, choose a clarifying shampoo without SLS and paraben. Lemon Water or Lime Rinse

Just like Apple Cider Vinegar, the lemon is also acidic in nature. It will help to remove the buildup from the hair and prevents dandruff. Take a medium sized lemon, squeeze out the juice and add 3 cups of water in it. Once you have shampooed the hair, apply the mixture from root to tip and let in sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse it off and see how amazing the hair looks afterward. However, if you have colored hair, the lemon rinse will lighten the color over time.

Water Softer

Water Softer is a way of removing the calcium and magnesium (lime scale) and certain other metal cations from the hard water, thereby making the hard water soft. This is rather an expensive method but if you have the means to do it, it works really well. It is ideal if you are facing the problems of eczema and frequent eczema.

Conditioner

A good conditioner or a leave-in conditioner will surely help the hair to look smooth, glossy and manageable. You can also use oils like Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil or Almond Oil. This will help to replenish the hair with moisture and nourishment preventing the dryness and dullness caused by hard water.
