For all the people, who don't prefer eating ridge-gourd curry as it is, you have the best replacement which is Ridge Gourd Chana Dal curry. It has both tastes, the taste of ridge-gourd as well as the cooked chana dal which adds a wonderful flavour. This combination is something which you should look out for.


Ingredients:
  • Chana Dal - 1 cup
  • Ridge-gourd - Half kg(peeled, chopped into pieces)
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Urad Dal - 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Onions - 1(small,finely chopped)
  • Curry leaves - 5-6
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Red Chilli powder - 2 teaspoons
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Coriander powder - Half teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves - Half bunch

Preparation:


Take the chana dal and add water to it. Cook for 3 whistles and keep it aside.


Take a pan to heat and add oil to it. Add urad dal, mustard seeds and cumin seeds and wait till they pop. Add onions and curry leaves and fry till they turn light brown in color. Then add ginger-garlic paste to it and mix.


Add the cut ridge-gourd pieces and cook for 20 mins by closing the pan with a lid.


Add the cooked chana dal and mix. Add salt and red chilli powder along with coriander powder.


Cook for another 10 mins and remove from heat after adding coriander leaves.
The delicious ridge gourd chana dal curry is now ready.


Serving Options:


Serve the Ridge Gourd Chana Dal curry with hot steamed rice and ghee. Enjoy its wonderful flavor. You can also have it with roti/dosa.

  8. Delicious I make it the same way but I haven't tried adding ginger garlic paste, I add them chopped, but this must give it a good flavor...Good one dear :)
