Uneven skin tone is the most common problem women face. The main cause of uneven skin tone is Hyperpigmentation which is caused by an increase in melanin production. Melanin is the natural pigment of your skin which is responsible for your skin, hair, and eye color. When there is too much of melanin in your body it leads to dark patches and spots. Hyperpigmentation can also occur due to hormonal imbalance, it is mostly experienced by pregnant women. When skin is exposed to sunlight, it gets damaged. When you don't wear sunscreen even during cloudy days the UV rays could still affect the skin leading to discolouration. Other reasons for hyperpigmentation are junk food, pollution, and acne breakouts. Now that we know how hyperpigmentation occurs, let's look at ways to reduce it.

Sunscreen Helps Even The Skin Tone

Sunscreen With SPF To Protect From UV Rays

To protect your skin from UV rays you have to apply sunscreen whenever you go out. The secret to getting the maximum protection from your sunscreen is not a very high SPF but the application of the sunscreen. You need to carry it with you and apply it after every 5 hours. Using a high SPF sunblock that contains vitamin C and E will treat your uneven skin tone in an effective way.

Face Masks Reduce Hyperpigmentation

Before you apply any mask you have to exfoliate daily. This is because the areas on your skin that have a high amount of melanin will get darker if you don't exfoliate on a regular basis. Now let's take a look at the masks!

1. Lemon

Lemon contains citric acid that helps bleach the skin, which is just what you need to reduce hyperpigmentation. Apply lemon juice on a cotton pad and dab it on your skin. Let it rest for 15 minutes and wash it off. If you have sensitive skin, mix a bit of rose water with the lemon juice and apply it on your skin.

2. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the best exfoliating agents. Mix oatmeal with a bit of honey to form a thick paste. Apply the mixture on your skin and rub it with your fingers in small circular motions. After 10 to 15 minutes wash off all the paste from your face.

3. Green Tea

Green tea has properties that reduce melanin production. Apply cooled green tea bags to the dark areas of your skin and leave it for 15 minutes.

4. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera gel can remove the dead skin cells and promote regeneration of new skin cells. Apply some fresh Aloe Vera gel on the areas with uneven skin and leave it on overnight. Rinse it off in the morning.

5. Turmeric

Turmeric has bleaching properties that can help to get rid of the uneven skin. Mix a spoon of turmeric with lemon juice and apply it on your skin. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then wash it off.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that neutralizes the effects of UV rays and repairs the skin. You can massage vitamin E oil on the affected areas of your skin for 10 minutes daily to reduce hyperpigmentation.

8. Banana

Mix together one mashed banana and honey until it forms a thick paste. Apply it on your face and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. After that wash your face with lukewarm water.

9. Potato

Peel a potato and cut it into thick slices. Rub it on your skin for 5 minutes. Wash your face with lukewarm water. Do this three times a day for at least a month to see changes.
