I have been searching high and low for a good professional hair dryer from a long time and went through a number of e-commerce sites. My previous hair dryer was a simple and compact version, meant for beginners. I used that for a long duration but wanted to try out various techniques and uses of a blow dryer. Though I considered various options from other brands than Philips, somehow my safe choice was Philips Professional 1800 Watts Essential Care. As I had to invest a lot of money, I made sure to invest in a brand I have already tried and tested. After using for around 2 months, here's my detailed review on the product.

My Experience With Philips Professional 1800 Watts Essential Care BHD 004 Hair Dryer:

The hair dryer comes in a simple cardboard packaging, very similar to other hair dryer packaging. The body is made of plastic but sturdy to use. It is light weight comparative to the similar sized hair dryers I have seen. Speaking of size, it is slightly bigger than other dryers I have used so far. It is not very travel-friendly due to the size, but I am quite comfortable in using it wherever required.
One of the features that attracted me towards this is the 1800W which is perfect for me. The compact versions were very low while others were too high. The heat generation is perfect and easily controlled. It is neither too gentle nor extremely harsh. For my shoulder length curly hair, it takes 2-3 minutes to dry out the semi-dry or towel soaked hair. When my hair is completely wet, it takes about 5 minutes to completely dry out the tresses. The heat settings and speed settings were slightly confusing when I bought it online. For a professional dryer, I would say I was disappointed. It has basically 2 heat and speed setting – medium and high and there isn't any option for cool drying. I was also expecting a cool shot button, but that was also not included.

There are two attachments given with this – a volume diffuser and concentrator. Both of them are extremely good and sturdy to use. 90% of the time I use the diffuser for my semi-wet curls and it truly gives a good volume. The same goes for the concentrator and it is great for smoothening the hair. However, the dryer does not add any kind of shine to the hair. So you have to use a shine spray or mousse to bring out the gloss to the tresses.

Overall, this was a good option for a hair dryer but it does lack a lot of features for a professional dryer.

Pros Of Philips Professional 1800 Watts Essential Care BHD 004 Hair Dryer:
  • Sturdy and comes with a diffuser and concentrator.
  • Lightweight and easy to use.
  • Heat generation is very good.
  • Adds proper volume to the hair.
  • Takes very little time in drying the hair.

Cons Of Philips Professional 1800 Watts Essential Care BHD 004 Hair Dryer:
  • A lot of features are missing like the cool shot button.
  • Doesn't add proper shine.

Diva Likes Rating:

3.5/5

Final Note:

If you want a nice hair dryer for using at home with better heat generation and decent features, this is a good option. However, the professional label is misleading as it lacks a lot of features.

    1. Definitely not. My budget was slightly short so couldn't go higher but I had expected a bit more from Phillips.

  3. It sounds average. I normally air dry but when I reach for a dryer I use the philips kerashine airstyler. Sounds the trick well.
