Hello everyone! On my last birthday, I was gifted a set of hair dryer and straightener by my brother. Since then, I used to style my hair a lot with them without using any heat protection spray. Yeah, I know it's a sin. As a result, my long hair turned into bundles of straw as all the moisture and shine was gone. Sometimes, due to my busy schedule I even used to skip oil massage. I decided to cut it short and maintain it properly all over again.
As my hair became dry it was very essential to massage with oil twice a week. Choosing oil is very difficult as most of the oils in the market are full of chemicals. I believe they do much more damage than curing the problem. So, I decided to make my own herbal oil with the ingredients that would not only restore the shine and moisture but also accelerate the hair growth. Here is a simple way to make your own homemade herbal oil.

Benefits Of Homemade Herbal Oil:

This oil will contribute towards:
1. Hair growth.
2. Dandruff removal.
3. Controlling the frizz and repairing the dry and damaged hair.
4. Healthy and problem free hair on long term usage.

Ingredients Required:
  • Mustard oil (If you can get it from the refinery, it will work the best)
  • Red Hibiscus flower (In Bengali we say, laal joba)
  • Fenugreek seeds

Benefits Of Each Ingredient:

Mustard Oil: The reason I used mustard oil and not any other is because it helps to keep my scalp dandruff free and moisturizes the hair from root to tip. You will notice that mustard oil, unlike other oils, is very thick. Hence it completely moisturizes my dry ends. It has the essential alpha fatty acids which help in conditioning and hair growth.

Red Hibiscus Flower: It is effective in curbing hair fall and dandruff. This ingredient also helps to make the hair soft, supple and shiny.

Fenugreek Seeds: Fenugreek/Methi is rich in medicinal properties. Its constituents include protein, vitamin C, fiber, iron, potassium, lysine, L-tryptophan and alkaloids. It is extremely effective against hair fall, dandruff and hair thinning. Fenugreek seeds contain proteins and nicotinic acid which are a great source for hair growth. It contains large amounts of lecithin which makes our hair healthy and strong. It also helps to reduce the dryness of the hair.

Procedure:

Take a bowl of mustard oil and drop the methi seeds and red hibiscus flower. Make sure the flower or flower petals are completely submerged into the oil.

Keep the bowl under the sun for a week. You will notice the color of the petals will slightly fade away.

Now, store this oil in that same condition without taking out the flower and methi seeds. Start using it.

Massage this oil twice a week followed by a steam therapy. For best result, wash your hair with herbal shampoo.

You can store this oil for a month or two but not more than that.

Hope you all liked this homemade herbal oil. The preparation is pretty simple and hardly takes any time. Do try and let us know your views on this DIY!
