Parenthood comes with a lot of responsibilities and one such duty is potty training our child. It is a big milestone for both the child as well as the parents but at the same time, it can also be very stressful. Spring is probably the best time to kick off potty training so that the toddler can be prepared by the time they start preschool. I have been blessed with a baby boy recently, and I am so looking forward to potty training my boy in the coming days. Having said that, I have helped potty train my niece sometime back and had my share of ups and downs. Here I am to discuss some of the tips which helped me cope with it all.

Potty Training Experience & Tips

The first thing I observed before starting potty training is her willingness to undergo the same. It was the time she expressed her wish to start using the bathroom and use the potty as she was aware of the sensation of peeing and pooping. She also showed concern about her wet and dirty diapers which made the process of beginning potty training easy.
In spite of her interest, this job wasn't easy. To get her interested in doing it, I had to bring in her favorite children books and talk to her about her favorite character using the potty. This created eagerness in her and she became comfortable with the idea of using the toilet.

When the potty training actually began, there were many potty accidents which were inconvenient and tough to handle. I have to admit that it requires a lot of time and patience to cope up with all of that. However, the simple successes achieved in the process make it worthy. Every step we went ahead, I made sure to encourage and motivate my niece with lots of hugs and kisses.
Finally, when she was potty trained, it did feel like a great accomplishment for me and a big milestone for her.

My view is that you should wait for the child to show signs of readiness and don't rush into it.

My view on potty training is wait until you see the child is ready, like if they are expressing interest in using the toilet. Once training is underway give them lots of reminders and positive reinforcement.

I believe not pressuring your child and waiting until they are ready is always best. Never get angry or upset if they have an accident.
