It is the pastry crust which contains flour, sugar and butter. It is tender crisp and you can choose any filling of your choice. It is very tasty and soft. You can add any fruits such as strawberries or apples or any nut filling on it. It goes great for get-togethers or any special occasions.


Ingredients:
    Ingredients to make Shortbread Crust:
  • Unsalted Butter - Half cup
  • Powdered Sugar - One-Fourth cup
  • Vanilla Extract - Half teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 1 cup
  • Salt - One-Fourth teaspoon
  • Ingredients to make Cream Cheese Filling:
  • Cream Cheese - 1 cup
  • Sugar - One-Fourth cup
  • Egg - 1
  • Vanilla Extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Ingredients to make Topping:
  • Sliced Apples - Half cup
  • Cinnamon powder - Half teaspoon
  • Sugar - One-Fourth cup
  • Sliced Almonds - Half cup

Preparation:

To make Shortbread Crust:

Sift all the dry ingredients such as flour, powdered sugar and salt into the bowl. Add cubed butter into the dry flour mixture bowl.


Knead well to form into a dough by adding little cold water.
Transfer the dough into the 9 inch spring foam cake pan or regular pan. Pat all the sides and center to form a base. Cover it with plastic wrap and allow it to refrigerate till the dough is firm.


To make Cream Cheese Filling:

Add cream cheese and egg in a bowl. Beat it for about 2 minutes till it gets creamy.


Add sugar and scrap down all the sides once it is well incorporated. Add Vanilla extract and mix well.
Once the dough is firm, prick it with fork to release steam. Put the cream cheese filling on to the pastry crust pan.


To make Topping:

Add Cinnamon powder and sugar into a bowl and mix well. Add powdered cinnamon and sugar into the apples. Mix well till the apples get coated.


Place the coated cinnamon sugar mixture apples on the cream cheese mixture pan. Add sliced almonds on the apple mixture.


Baking:

Place the pan on the baking sheet. Bake it for about 20-25 mins or until the cream cheese is set. Once it is baked fresh from the oven, allow it to cool on the cooling rack. Slice it once the tart is cooled and serve.


Serving Options:

It serves about 8 slices and goes well with whipped cream or as a simple elegant dessert.
