It is that time of the year when scorching heat, dripping perspiration, humidity, and sweat drenched clothes become the order of the day. Summers with soaring temperatures can be tough on anyone. But it can be especially a difficult time to cope with, for a pregnant woman. Pregnancy is a time when the body becomes more sensitive to many senses. And, needless to say, the high temperatures affects a would-be mom more than a regular adult. But there are some simple tips that can help women during their summer pregnancy. So if you are pregnant or a soon to be a mom, read on to know the secret of coping and winning against the ruthless summer.

1. Stay Hydrated

Summers drench us in perspiration, resulting in severe loss of fluids from the body. This can lead to dehydration which is quite dangerous during pregnancy. So the first rule of thumb is to drink up lots of fluids and remain hydrated at all times.

2. Find Shady Places

Whenever you are out in the sun, avoid long spells under it. Be on the lookout of cooler places with shade so that the body does not heat up to cause discomfort to you or your little one inside.

3. Make Hats & Sunscreen Your Constant Companions

During the day, step out with a large hat to protect yourself from the harsh sun rays. Ensure that you dab sufficient sunscreen on any exposed part of your skin. The skin undergoes many changes during pregnancy and direct UV rays can cause more damage than usual times.

4. Avoid Strenuous Workouts

Yes, it is true that pregnancy demands some amount of exercise to keep the body fit and to avoid oedema. But during the hot months strenuous exercises may leave you more fatigued and dehydrated than the cooler months. So try to keep it light.

5. Cool Down In The Pool

Now if you are unable to work out indoors, go out and soak yourself in the swimming pool. Swimming is a safe and effective exercise during pregnancy. However, if you have any complications, consult the doctor before getting into the water. A slow swim, or just lazing in the water will provide your body with some respite from the heat.

6. Avoid Greasy Food

During pregnancy you are permitted to eat to your heart's content. But during summers oily and greasy food can wreak havoc with your system and make you very uncomfortable. Regular food will not make a huge difference, but stocking up on fresh citrus fruits will keep your body cool and also be nutritious for the little one!

7. Keep Your Feet Up

The occurrence of varicose veins due to fluid build is more frequent during the summers because we generally feel lazy during the summers than during the cooler time of the year. So you are left sitting or lying for longer periods which aids in fluid build-up in your feet leading to varicose veins. Always remember to keep your feet on a raised platform when sitting down for long. Walk about a little at regular intervals, but don't overdo the walking if your body does not like doing it.

8. Schedule Outings In The Evening

You cannot restrict yourself indoors all through the summers during your pregnancy, but try to remain indoors as much as possible. Instead of lunch events, try going to dinner parties. If you have to schedule doctor's appointment or pamper yourself at the salon, take appointments for evening as it is relatively cooler.

9. Make Yourself Comfortable In Loose Attires

Pregnancy is a time when your body undergoes several changes to nurture the growing baby inside. You slowly tend to put on weight, and that is absolutely fine. But your clothes begin to feel tighter. And tight clothes add to the discomfort of the soaring temperatures. Wear breezy loose cotton wear during your summer pregnancy to avoid the apparel from sticking to your body and troubling you unnecessarily.

10. Remain Cool In The Head

Irritation, frustration, anger, stress and the likes of such feeling makes us feel hotter and more uncomfortable. A good way to relieve yourself from these emotions and feelings is to laugh it off with pregnancy related movies from the romantic comedy genres. Read good books, listen to calm soothing music or watch movies in order to remain calm and ward off the evils of the summer heat.

Hope these tips help all the pregnant women out there to deal with the wonderful time of your life and have a happy pregnancy!
