The days and nights are getting crazier but the toothless giggle of your little nugget is totally worth every maddening second. By the third month, the bumblebee is seeking you during its waking hours that are getting slightly longer now. Has your little munchkin started enjoying her massage and bathing ritual or is she wailing at the sight of water? The third month of your dumpling is full of new revelations. This is when she begins to bond and interact with you with her coos and delightful looks.

Most Prominent Aspects

Your little one is beginning to discover her limbs. The tiny hands and feet are the 3-month-old baby's new play companion. The hands are not under their control yet, but they are trying to bring them closer and marvel at the antics of these animated body parts. Funny thing is the tots do not realize yet that the chubby arms are parts of their own body!

Skills and Physical Development

The sense of touch: By the middle of the third month, you will notice that babies try to touch anything and everything around them. This is because by this time they are developing a sense of touch. This prompts the little ones to explore various textures and make meaning of the world around them. So if you feel a sharp pull on your hair or a tug at your necklace, it is because your baby wants to touch and feel the texture of these things. Skin contact is very important during this stage as it provides the little bundles with a lot of comfort and feeling of security. This is when they associate mother's touch with love and care.

Stronger neck muscles: The neck that was very delicate and weak all this while and had to be supported is now becoming stronger. The muscles supporting their tiny neck are gaining more power so that it can hold the head weight without any support. By the end of this month, most babies can hold their neck independently. Some may take a while longer, but that's absolutely normal.

Tummy roll: This is a good time to leave your munchkins on their tummies for a few minutes every day. This helps them with digestion and also encourages the strengthening of the neck muscles as they try to lift their cute little heads. The little ones still cannot roll very well, but the tummy time practice will aid their muscle coordination and provide exercise to the nimble bones.

Better muscle coordination: By this time the hand-eye coordination is getting better. It will still take some time before the baby can hold things or focus the gaze on one object. By the third month of their life, the bones and joints begin to gain more strength and with regular oil massage, they will soon move the limbs and the head in perfect coordination.

Cognitive Development

Learning to look in the mirror: No babies are not self-obsessed divas who cannot but look at themselves in the mirror every 2 minutes! The cute little faces are oblivious to their charm. But the baby faces seem to fascinate them. And so when a mirror is placed before them, they feel curious at the reflection looking back.

Getting used to a routine: Have you noticed babies becoming restless at a specific time, mostly during the evenings? Or have you noticed how little screams fill the house when it is their bath time? This is because by this time, babies get used to a routine and they can relate the activity to the time of its occurrence.

Social and Emotional Development

Following the mother's voice: If you call your baby from a distance you will notice the little head trying to look around. Your baby finds relief and comfort in your voice, and therefore when the little ears process your soothing voice, they try to seek the source.

Smiles become more meaningful: Don't worry. You don't have to tell a really funny joke to crack the munchkin. But your high pitched noise or mimicry of an animal sound may get a gurgling giggling expression from the tiny rosy mouth. The aimless random smiling becomes more focused. Give your little one a reason to giggle and feel delighted with the toothless laugh.

Crying for attention: Even when all physical demands of the little ones are met, some of them tend to cry incessantly. There is absolutely no reason to worry about this irrational crying. By the time babies hit the three-month line their mind begins to process the surrounding at a rapid pace. Therefore, they tend to get bored easily. This boredom leads to crying. Change the surrounding or introduce them to something new, and like magic, the crying will vanish. However, if your baby cries continuously for no apparent reason, it is best to consult a pediatrician to check if there is a stomach ache or some other problem.

Involvement Of Parents

Introduce babies to bright colors: 3-month-old infants are attracted to loud colors. Hand a spinning toy on the cradle for the baby to watch. The bright color will help her focus and sharpen her vision.

Read with a rhythm: It is too early for your baby to listen to stories. But reading to her or showing a big colorful picture board and singing a rhyme will keep your nugget engaged and at the same time tune her ears for rhythm and familiar sounds.

A rattle to grasp: Shake a rattle in front of your baby and let her try to grab it. Make this a fun play. While the tot is engaged in this, the activity will help in hand-eye coordination.

Be patient with your little one. Your night long battle will continue for a few more weeks. But the beauty of your newborn growing up into a wonderful human being is the best feeling in the world. So hold on mommies. The third month will be over soon and suddenly one day it will be time for your baby's first birthday. Till then keep reading about the baby milestones!
